Baby Treads and Threads

is owned by me; Sue Gillis and my Mother in law, Barb Alderink. We started our store partly out of a love of buying baby shoes for my daughter Lea, and partly because we wanted to tell the world about squeaky shoes!

While vacationing in Thailand and China, Barb came across some darling little shoes that she thought would be perfect for her Grandchildren. Little did she know they made noise until one of the kids kicked their heels together in her car seat! When Lea was old enough to take her first steps, Barb put the squeaky shoes on her that she had saved for over a year. Lea looked confused for a moment when she heard the little squeak, then took another step and squealed with delight! We all laughed, and she laughed and then she kept trying to make the sound. We soon realized this was not only cute and fun, but a great learning tool. None of us had ever heard of such a thing! No one we knew had ever heard of "squeaky shoes" either.

As Lea's feet grew, I became worried that I wouldn't be able to find any in a larger size. I was happy to find one store on the internet that had them, and even happier that they had the very same shoe! Then I found other kinds of cute shoes online... and more... I realized I had become passionate about baby shoes! I decided that I needed to get into a business that I really enjoyed, and here it is! A year later, the world has become much more familiar with squeaky shoes and there's a good reason... They're fun!
